Panhandle South Plains Fair
Nat, Pelin and I went to the Panhandle South Plains Fair last evening. The fairground was relatively big. There's a section for fun rides, a HUGE section selling foods, exhibitions for plants and vegetables, hand craft, art and painting, antiques and of course - animals. We got in through the entrance where the fun rides were. You could see kids squirming around and excited about the rides. We passed by a lady eating a foot-long corn dog, Nat was excited and she approached the lady to ask where did she get the corn dog, then we headed straight to the booth that the lady was referring to. Before we go to the fair, Nat was checking the Fair website for the food that they are selling. She even listed her 'Menu' for the night. She had foot-long corn dog, corn-on-cob, fried pickels (yea, notice the word "FRIED"), turkey leg and a coke.
I got a foot-long corn dog too, since Nat was so excited, I wanted to know what's so special about that. Cheated!! I was cheated!! The foot-long corn dog is actually made of 2 hotdogs on a stick instead of 1 hotdog for regular corn-dog. Anyway, there's a lot of food booths, however, there wasn't a lot of variety, just the standard fair food. Nat got a fried pickels too, cause it sounded new. I tried one, and I thought that the regular pickels tasted better than this one.
Nat and Pelin decided to get a turkey leg to-go, for tomorrow's lunch. The vendor selling the turkey leg asked Pelin which side does she want, left or right leg. She was annoyed and she thought that the question was stupid. Well, I actually thought that the question was FUNNY, and I told the vendor she wants a right leg. The vendor definitely has a sense of humor, too bad it wasn't appreciated.
The South Plains Fair was a sort of county fair, so its unfair to compare it to the Iowa State Fair that I went to when I was visitng my sister. The exhibitions for plants and vegetables in Iowa State Fair were definitely better than this. I could recall that the apples that won a blue ribbon in Iowa was arranged in a wooden tray to show that the size and look of the 40 apples are identical. The blue ribbon winner for apple in South Plains Fair? 2 red apples standing side by side, that's it. I wished that I had brought my camera with me so that I could take the picture and post it here for comparison.
The animals exhibitions in South Plains Fair is way ahead of the Iowa State Fair. Even though I didn't see a 1080 lbs swine and a 2996 lbs bull here, there's a huge variety of bull and the average size of bulls in this fair is way bigger than Iowa. I didn't get to see the exhibitions for swine this time, cause it was getting dark, getting really crowded and we were tired. Anyway, it was fun to go to a fair like this.
